HIKING SHOES FOR THE RAINFORESTS OF THE OSA PENINSULA

For hiking in the Osa, it’s best to bring lightweight shoes with excellent traction, ideally with deep lugs for muddy and slippery rainforest trails. Trail runners or light hiking shoes tend to work better than heavy boots in the humid jungle because they stay more comfortable and dry more quickly. Shoes with reinforced toes and sturdy uppers hold up well against roots, rocks, and wet conditions.

If you plan on doing multiple rainforest hikes, consider bringing two pairs: a waterproof or closed-toe hiking shoe and a pair of closed-toe water shoes for river crossings or very muddy areas. Most importantly, break your shoes in before the trip and pack extra socks… wet feet are the fastest path to blisters.
